After being banned in 1995 for repeatedly violating University rules, the University of Notre Dame has reinstated their rugby squad for the 2007 fall season.
Already midway through the fall season, the Irish are 6-1-1 with wins over Illinois-Chicago and Northwestern.

The NDRFC was founded in 1961 and was one the one of the first collegiate rugby clubs in the Midwest Union, and played men’s teams almost exclusively, including the Chicago Lions. In the spring of 1962, Notre Dame narrowly defeated Wisconsin in the first intercollegiate rugby match played in the Midwest.
According to the rugby blog Gainline.us, the team is also close to naming current U-17 national boys team head coach Sean O’Leary as their own head coach.
The first ORU Collegiate Rugbyfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio. All Ohio collegiate rugby squads are required to play that day, with the exception of Dayton, Xavier and Ohio Wesleyan. The games are hosted by the ORU, Scioto Valley RFC and the City of Columbus Parks and Recreation.
Games will start at 9 a.m. and end by 6 p.m.. The feature matches of the day will be played at 1 p.m. The Ohio State University Men and Women will be playing national-caliber matches.
While not mandatory, St. Edward players are encouraged to attend to watch this high-level of rugby, as well as meet and greet with the multitude of college coaches on the five pitches.
